Year-long program will support one woman working in a small- or medium-market radio station
Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio has opened applications for the fourth annual “Speak Up!” Mentorship Program in partnership with Media Staffing Network. The program supports women working across all departments at small- and medium-market radio stations. Applications close Friday, Aug. 28.
MIW and Media Staffing Network created the year-long program in memory of Laurie Kahn, the late founder of Media Staffing Network and an advocate for women in broadcasting. MIW’s network of female broadcast leaders will provide the selected candidate with personalized mentoring, while certified Media Staffing Network coaches will deliver executive coaching. The program aims to help participants develop leadership skills, confidence and professional relationships as they advance their radio careers.
Sheila Kirby, president of MIW, pointed to the program’s development since its launch in 2023. “As Speak Up! enters its fourth year, we’re incredibly proud of the impact this program continues to have on women across our industry,” she said. “Honoring Laurie Kahn’s legacy means creating opportunities for women to grow as leaders, build meaningful relationships and gain the confidence to pursue the next step in their careers.”
Lisa Fields, president of Media Staffing Network, highlighted Kahn’s belief in strengthening the media industry by investing in its people. “Speak Up! reflects that belief by giving emerging leaders access to experienced mentors who can provide guidance, perspective and encouragement at pivotal moments in their careers,” she said. “We’re honored to continue partnering with MIW to help empower the next generation of women leaders in radio.”
Past recipients include Presleigh Bearden, social media manager and on-air personality for iHeartMedia Markets Group in Little Rock and Fayetteville, Arkansas, who joined the program in 2025. Jessica Williams, national adult contemporary host and community outreach director for Townsquare Media in Rochester, Minnesota, received the mentorship in 2024. Mary Zukin, senior sales and marketing executive at Idaho-based Iliad Media Group, became the inaugural recipient in 2023.
