Auddia Inc. has announced the integration of its faidr mobile app with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling users to mirror their smartphone audio options on their vehicle’s infotainment system.
Auddia quotes research that supports the move: According to Wards Intelligence, over 90% of new vehicles now offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, with many drivers favoring these platforms over built-in systems. A recent McKinsey & Co. study found that 25% of electric vehicle buyers and 38% of combustion vehicle buyers in the U.S. would not consider a car without smartphone mirroring.
Furthermore, the company quotes a report from the Radio Advertising Bureau showing that when Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is available, AM/FM radio is the top choice for audio listening, accounting for 46% of total listening time.
Convenience and safety
“Although faidr has been available through Bluetooth, the automatic connection and hands-free access through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it more convenient and safer for drivers,” said Auddia CEO Michael Lawless. “This integration significantly expands our reach in the U.S. radio streaming market.”
Auddia is also working on direct integrations with vehicle infotainment systems to support consumers without smartphone mirroring capabilities. In addition to automotive platforms, the company plans to expand faidr’s availability to smart speakers, desktops and home entertainment systems.
“Auddia is executing a two-part strategy to drive growth,” said Executive Chairman Jeff Thramann. “We are focused on offering ad-free AM/FM radio and podcasting experiences while ensuring these options are accessible wherever consumers choose to listen. This strategy is expected to increase user numbers and drive subscription growth.”
Auddia plans to launch an AI-assisted, music-only AM/FM service in Q4, allowing listeners to enjoy their favorite stations without ads or DJs.
