Radio continues to reach 83% of Finland’s population aged nine and older in 2025 — equivalent to 4.3 million people each week — according to audience data from Finnpanel, the official source for audience data in the Finnish media industry, and reported by RedTech’s sister publication, La Lettre Pro.
Daily reach stands at 60%, or 3.1 million listeners. Average daily listening time is two hours and four minutes, totaling 14 hours and 31 minutes per week. On an average weekday, simultaneous listening peaks at 9 a.m., when 967,000 people tune in.
Weekly reach among 9–24-year-olds is 83%. It stands at 63% among listeners aged 25–54 and rises to 94% among those aged 55 and older. Daily listening time averages one hour and 27 minutes for 9–24-year-olds, 32 minutes for the 25–54 group and three hours and 30 minutes for those aged 55 and above.
Home accounts for 53% of listening, followed by the car at 26%, the workplace at 16% and other locations at 6%. Among 25–54-year-olds, the car represents 37% of listening, ahead of the workplace at 31% and home at 26%.
Finland has more than 50 FM stations. Digital platforms, including Radioplayer Suomi, Yle Areena, Supla and RadioPlay, extend access to radio services.

Yle — Finland’s public broadcaster — accounts for 51% of weekly radio listening, according to the reported figures. Bauer Media Audio holds 24%, Sanoma 15% and other operators collectively 10%. Among individual stations, Yle Radio Suomi records a 34% share, followed by Yle Radio 1 at 10%, Radio Nova at 9% and Radio Rock at 5%. Several other stations report shares ranging from 0.2% to 4%.
Within the 25–54 demographic, weekly shares include Yle Radio Suomi at 15%, Radio Nova at 14%, Radio Rock at 11%, Radio Suomipop at 9%, YleX at 6% and Radio City at 5%. Commercial radio accounts for 73% of total listening in this age group. Weekly listening time among 25–54-year-olds reaches seven hours and 27 minutes, with weekly reach at 72% and daily reach at 43%.
Across the total population aged nine and older, weekly listening averages seven hours and nine minutes, with weekly reach at 66% and daily reach at 38%.
Radio represents 68% of total audio listening time in Finland. Podcasts account for 6%, while other audio formats — including music streaming, audiobooks and physical media — account for 26%. Total audio listening averages three hours and two minutes per day among those aged nine and older.
By age group, radio represents 23% of total audio time among 9–24-year-olds, 55% among 25–54-year-olds and 91% among those aged 55 and older.
Podcasts reach 22% of Finns aged nine and older each week, representing more than one million people. Weekly podcast reach stands at 32% among 15–24-year-olds and 31% among 25–54-year-olds. In both groups, podcasts account for 11% of total audio listening time.
In addition, 1.3 million Finns use domestic streaming services weekly. Overall weekly streaming reach is 26%, rising to 30% among 25–54-year-olds and standing at 26% among those aged 55 and older. The data indicate that streaming services contribute to overall audio reach alongside FM radio, depending on age group.
