Immersive audio is the next big step in the evolution of the radio experience, but currently, both the production of immersive audio content and its delivery to the listeners are tricky. Ferncast says its aixtream software is here to help with at least one end of this chain. It empowers broadcasters to incorporate immersive audio content into their portfolios.
The recent collaboration with Deutschlandfunk on Dolby Atmos podcasts, such as “Who Killed Tupper,” showcases aixtream’s role in enabling broadcasters to deliver Dolby Atmos versions of their podcasts.
Ferncast explains that thanks to aixtream’s ability to handle HLS packaging for immersive audio, broadcasters can encode, process and distribute spatial audio content as radio streams or podcasts, ensuring compatibility across various end devices.
It adds that HLS packaging also ensures smooth playback, adaptive quality and features like chapter selection and time-shifting, all while preserving the depth and clarity of immersive audio. On the live streaming side of things, aixtream also offers the option of creating an upmix in Dolby Atmos, which turns even non-Atmos content into a 3D soundscape, expanding creative possibilities without requiring a full production studio.
