The Cégep de Jonquière in Québec, Canada, has upgraded its radio training facilities with 22 Calrec Audio Type R modular mixing systems as part of a transition to an AES67 IP infrastructure. Established in 1967, Cégep de Jonquière, a public college, is recognized for its media programs and industry partnerships in Europe, Africa and Canada.
Supported by Calrec’s Canadian partner True North A.V. and integrator Applied Electronics, the upgrade aims to provide radio students hands-on experience using industry-standard technology while enhancing system flexibility and reliability. This initiative is part of a broader overhaul of the college’s l’École supérieure en Art et technologie des médias department, which is the only public institution in Québec offering this type of professional radio training.

The installation comprises Type R systems in four broadcast studios and 18 recording booths. The recording booths utilize Type R’s Large Soft Panel and the Calrec Assist application, while the studios feature additional physical fader modules.
Simplifying operations
“We wanted to simplify operations for our students and share sources and destinations with greater reliability,” said Alexandre Morin, technician and project manager at the college’s l’École supérieure en Art et technologie des médias. “This system provides us with total technical independence and allows us to focus on operations instead of troubleshooting.”
Morin noted that the system’s versatility enables students to broadcast live content locally and online while gaining practical experience. “It’s vital for us to focus on industry-standard functions, and Type R facilitates that,” he stated.
Dave Letson, Calrec’s vice president of sales, added, “This IP infrastructure ensures that the college can provide real-world training on actual equipment, addressing today’s needs while adapting to future developments.
