Radio Academy Mentoring Programme opens for applications

RAMP, The Radio Academy’s mentoring program for mid-career radio and audio professionals, is now open for applications. The program is aimed at those with at least five years of experience who are ready to take a significant step forward in their careers. Once again, Broadcast Bionics is supporting RAMP.

Applications for RAMP 2025 are open online until Nov. 7 this year. The program welcomes people working in all areas of audio or radio, including production, presentation, journalism, technology, craft, commercial, brand and support roles.

A free webinar will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. BST (2 p.m. CEST/CAT). Hosted by former RAMP graduate and Radio Academy podcast producer Georgy Jamieson, the webinar will explore the application process, feature previous graduates and explain how RAMP can help advance your career.

In a time when many professionals face barriers to career progression, RAMP aims to provide access to industry leaders, expertise and support, thereby addressing individual challenges and promoting equity in the industry.

Participants will be matched with an experienced senior leader in the audio industry, offering them high-level connections across the sector. This support helps participants gain confidence and take control of their career advancement. The 2024 mentors included senior figures from the BBC, commercial broadcasters and independent production companies.

Bespoke mentoring and guided support

The six-month program includes confidential one-to-one mentoring sessions, peer-to-peer development, training workshops, networking events and ongoing support from the RAMP lead and Radio Academy team.

There are 20 places available. A panel of Radio Academy trustees will shortlist applicants, and interviews will follow. Successful applicants will be carefully matched with a mentor based on their specific goals and career situation. Applicants must have at least five years of experience working in audio.

Aradhna Tayal Leach, managing director at The Radio Academy, said, “Often, professionals reach a point in their audio career where they feel stuck — perhaps unsure or unsuccessful in advancing to the next position. RAMP has been carefully designed to offer bespoke mentoring and guided support to help audio professionals through this phase by bolstering their confidence and knowledge to take the next steps.”

Dan McQuillin, managing director at Broadcast Bionics, said, “Empowering broadcasters to create compelling, creative content is at the heart of everything we do at Broadcast Bionics. That’s why we’re thrilled to support RAMP once again — a unique mentoring program designed to unlock the creativity and talent of ambitious audio professionals. I encourage each participant to fully embrace the opportunity to learn from their mentors and peers on this one-of-a-kind journey.”
