Wheatstone will demonstrate its new VMX virtual mixing platform at the 2026 TAB Show, Aug. 5–6 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock, Texas. The server-based platform allows broadcasters to centralize multiple mixing applications on an existing server or dedicated appliance. Operators can access those mixers through a web browser from studio touchscreens, laptops or tablets at remote locations.
VMX offers a selection of mixer tiles for different production requirements, ranging from basic utility mixers and simplified virtual interfaces to complete broadcast consoles. The LXE-V tile provides a virtual version of Wheatstone’s physical LXE console, retaining its programmability and mixing capabilities. Broadcasters can place the interface on a recessed studio touchscreen for radio on-air production or television newsroom applications.
Because VMX runs through a web browser, broadcasters can add mixing positions to newsrooms, control rooms and voice-tracking booths without installing a dedicated physical surface at each location. They can also create remote mixers on demand for applications such as sports production, where an operator could work from a tablet at a venue. Real-time synchronization between primary and backup instances provides instantaneous failover if the main system fails.
The AES67-compliant platform includes a setup wizard and scales from enterprise installations to VMX Nano, a smaller configuration designed for remote or emergency broadcasting. VMX forms part of Wheatstone’s Layers software-based broadcast suite, which virtualizes studio functions across the company’s WheatNet IP audio network. This architecture allows virtual mixers to share audio and control resources with WheatNet IP consoles, talent stations and intelligent I/O units.
Wheatstone will demonstrate VMX at booth 101 alongside its audio processors, Audioarts consoles and WheatNet IP products. The TAB Show exhibition floor will open on Aug. 6.
