SCMS Inc., a U.S.-based broadcast equipment dealer, is celebrating 50 years in business.
Founded in 1976 by Bob and Gloria Cauthen, the company was a regional dealer for the middle Atlantic region on the U.S. East Coast.
Through select and opportune acquisitions and an open mind on technology, the company has since branched out from its radio studio equipment roots into television, first, then towers, cellular equipment, AV and wireless digital networking. It has also added engineering services to the mix along with international markets such as Latin America and Africa.
Bob is still around joined by sons Matt and Ben.
SCMS Vice President Matt Cauthen said, “Diversification has been critical. We’ve taken what we know across technology, relationships and problem-solving, and applied it to new growth markets. At the end of the day customers come to us for solutions, not just products.”
Founder and President Bob Cauthen said, “Gloria and I started this company with little more than determination and a belief in building relationships. Fifty years later, those same principles still guide everything we do.”
