U.DAB launches largest small-scale DAB multiplex in the U.K.

Vortex Communications and RØDE are strengthening their relationship.
In a news release for the upcoming IBC Show Vortex said, “Vortex’s successful CallMe IP Codec add-on is now integrated as standard for RØDECaster Pro II and Duo.” The RØDECaster Pro II and Duo are small broadcast production-friendly mixers. With Vortex’s CallMe codec onboard they they add mobile comms connectivity to their feature sets.
The release provided more specific details: “ RØDECaster Pro is specifically designed for broadcast and provides 3X separate Stereo CallMe IP audio codec channels at a fraction of the price of alternative solutions, whilst still supporting full broadcast specifications, including RFC7198 fully-compliant SIP Dual Streaming to provide reliable, resilient connectivity.”
Furthermore, “The three codecs can connect to different destinations — for example, for program audio, talkback and CallMe click-and-connect guests. RØDECasters have Wi-Fi and Ethernet built in, with CallMe adding mobile connectivity. An off-the-shelf battery pack powers the units for more than seven hours even when streaming over 4G.”
A groundbreaking leap forward
“RØDE CallMe marks a groundbreaking leap forward in remote production,” said RØDE CEO Damien Wilson. “By partnering with Vortex, we’ve removed constrictive technical barriers and eliminated geographic constraints entirely to deliver broadcast-quality results for creators and professionals alike. Vortex MD Ian Prowse added, “We are delighted to be working with RØDE to fully integrate our established CallMe IP Audio capability, bringing low-delay, broadcast-quality remote audio to the widest possible range of users, including broadcasters, podcasters, internet radio creators and voice-over professionals.”
Vortex’s role in powering RØDE CallMe is evident in the system’s scalability and technical backbone. The service is offered in three tiers, ranging from a free Lite version for basic RØDECaster-to-RØDECaster calls to a professional tier with multi-guest capability, advanced SIP controls and customisable codecs.
RØDE CallMe is now available for all RØDECaster Pro II and Duo users via a firmware update.
