At IBC2025 in Amsterdam, Plisch and RFmondial showcased what they describe as the world’s first multi-channel Digital Radio Mondiale transmitter designed for VHF Band III (174–240 MHz). The companies said the development responds to growing international interest in deploying DRM in this frequency range, particularly following Indonesia’s recent recommendation of the standard for Band III.
The system combines Plisch’s Medium Power Transmitter 5600/5700 Series, which covers outputs from 500 W to 20 kW, with RFmondial’s LV5e DRM modulator and exciter. According to the companies, the LV5e can multiplex up to 15 DRM-FM streams into one spectrum, each with its own content and power level. The resulting signal is then processed with crest-factor reduction, limiting and non-linear pre-correction before being fed into the transmitter.
RFmondial added that its RF-SE DRM measurement and monitoring receiver is already prepared for Band III operation, allowing broadcasters in Indonesia and other markets to set up DRM transmission networks in this band.
Founded in 1955, Plisch is based in Viernheim, Germany, and supplies radio and TV transmitter systems worldwide, including for national DAB+ networks. RFmondial, headquartered in Hanover, Germany, develops professional digital broadcasting equipment, with activities spanning transmitters, receivers and monitoring systems.
