Wanna be a sports programming broadcast mogul but don’t have the millions/billions of dollars or euros to get going? Well, start small with the help of Finland’s radio automation developer Jutel.
Last month Jutel conducted a webinar, “Ives Hockey Sports Radio with RadioMan,” focusing on a Finnish hockey club and its promotional radio and streaming efforts.
The webinar is in English, along with English-language subtitles for backup, just in case the accents are too heavy.
Topics approached include: the business case for sports radio; technical and practical considerations; live and recorded content production; multiple platform distribution; and lessons learned by the Ilves hockey team’s experience.
While much of the webinar is from the team perspective of building fan-engagement, the takeaway is that any radio station can also do this with local sports teams and leagues. Below the professional leagues (and major college sports in the U.S.), there’s an ocean of unlicensed content available with amateur local teams and leagues, including schools, that is begging to be covered.
Fans, including interested parents, are a loyal audience. Stations can build up a dedicated listenership and advertising opportunities can abound as retailers and service providers will want to support the local community with sponsorships.
As unlicensed content it costs literally nothing beyond the work, some remote, and the necessary equipment.
