Not every radio station has a dedicated IT person, especially one conversant in audio-over-IP technology, like, say, WheatNet IP.
Luckily Wheatstone has posted a wee primer on AoIP, “Right Size Your AoIP Network.”
It’s not too detailed but detailed enough to for you talk with your Wheatstone dealer or customer service rep in North Carolina. (FYI, much of this is also relevant to other AoIP systems which may be installed throughout the world.)
Useful subject matter like knowing your network switch needs or particular installation — Single, dual, edge or stacked? Don’t buy what you don’t need or doesn’t mesh with your equipment complement.
Don’t go after more than you need or expect to need.
Beware the “unicast” trap.
A little brain grease and you might find yourself boring friends and loved ones about Ethernet switches you’ve known while you chow down on brisket at a barbecue. Their loss but they might turn to you in their hour of Ethernet switch need.
