Hutton Broadcasting has purchased a Nautel NV20LT transmitter for KQBA in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Hutton Broadcasting is a privately owned U.S. radio group based in New Mexico, operating a mix of full-power FM stations and FM translators serving both urban centers and sparsely populated rural areas across New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Utah. Like many regional broadcasters in the United States, the company combines locally focused programming with geographically challenging transmission environments, where rugged terrain and long distances make network reliability and transmitter resilience particularly important.
Austin Burch, director of engineering at Hutton Broadcasting, said the company selected Nautel based on what he described as reliability, efficiency and the availability of technical support. He pointed to a standard four-year warranty, which he noted is longer than many competing offerings, and described the pricing as competitive. Burch added that the company operates transmitters at mountain-top and remote locations and values equipment that, in his words, “will just keep running.”
For the new order, Hutton Broadcasting used Nautel’s finance partner, Navitas.
Nautel says Hutton Broadcasting has been a customer for more than a decade and has purchased and installed a range of its transmitters across its stations. These include an NV30LTN at KBAC-FM and an NV7.5LT at KKDG-FM, and, for FM translators, a VX150 at K252FJ and a VS300 at K279CX.
