The DRM Consortium says it will showcase the DRM digital radio standard at BES Expo 2026, the 30th International Conference and Exhibition on Broadcast and Media Technology, taking place Jan. 29–31 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The exhibition theme, “Broadcast Intelligence Innovation: Make in India for the World,” frames this year’s event around scalable, future-ready broadcast technologies developed with India’s needs in mind.
DRM says its participation aligns closely with that theme, positioning the open DRM standard as a pathway to modern, efficient radio services designed to serve India’s geographic scale, linguistic diversity and mixed urban-rural listening environments. The consortium says DRM enables broadcasters to retain universal access while moving toward digital services that improve spectrum efficiency, audio quality and service resilience.
At the expo, DRM representatives plan to demonstrate practical FM digitization strategies that allow broadcasters to evolve without switching off existing analog services. According to the consortium, the focus will be on real-world transition models, including simulcast approaches that keep analog and digital services synchronized, supporting continuity for listeners while enabling gradual digital adoption.
Demonstrations are expected to cover the whole broadcast chain, from studio and transmission systems to receiver solutions. DRM members and partners will also present receiver ecosystems suited to large-scale deployment, including automotive and portable receivers, alongside data services such as text-based information and emergency warning features, the consortium says.
The DRM Consortium adds that its presence at BES Expo 2026 is intended to give broadcasters, policymakers and technology partners a practical view of how digital radio can be deployed in ways that are economically viable and operationally sustainable, while supporting India’s broader broadcast innovation goals under the expo’s “Make in India for the World” framework.
