Broadcasting Center Europe has launched Luxembourg’s first national DAB+ multiplex, marking a significant move toward digital radio in a country where FM frequencies have long been saturated. The inauguration took place at BCE headquarters with Elisabeth Margue, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Media and Connectivity, and representatives from the first broadcasters joining the platform.
The company says that for decades, FM frequencies in Luxembourg have been stretched to their limit and opportunities to coordinate new channels or expand radio offerings have become scarce. It adds that DAB+ offers a clear technical solution.
BCE won the license to operate the national multiplex in June 2025 and was given six months to deploy the first phase of the network using transmission sites in Dudelange, Hosingen and Jardin Napoléon. The design integrates BCE’s in-house DAB+ encoding and multiplexing platform, high-capacity IP links and a 24/7 Network Operations Centre.
“We are proud to support Luxembourg’s transition to digital radio,” said Karin Schmuecker, CEO of BCE. “The new multiplex strengthens the country’s broadcast infrastructure and gives radio stations the ability to reach audiences with more capacity and more features.”
The first services on the multiplex include RTL Today Radio, Radio 100,7, Eldoradio, Crooner Radio, L’essentiel Radio, LOR’FM, Radio ARA, Radio Latina, Opus 100,7, RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg and Nostalgie Luxembourg.
“I am delighted by the diversity of radio services selected for this first multiplex,” said Margue. “The introduction of DAB+ and the arrival of new stations mark an important milestone for Luxembourg’s radio landscape. This development will contribute to strengthening media pluralism in our country, with the rollout of DAB+ scheduled before the end of the year.”
