Summ’it aims to connect audiences through audio storytelling
Broadcast engineers, regulators and network operators from around the world will gather online later this month for the annual ASBU WorldDAB ABU Technical Workshop, which will explore the latest technical developments shaping DAB+ digital radio.
The three-day event, running July 20–22, is organized jointly by the Arab States Broadcasting Union, WorldDAB and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. This year’s theme, “DAB+: Proven economics with continuous technical innovation,” reflects the workshop’s focus on helping broadcasters and regulators deploy and optimize digital radio networks.
Held over three online morning sessions, the workshop is designed for both technical and management teams involved in planning, implementing and operating DAB+ services. Participants will hear from industry experts covering topics including standards updates, service following, advances in in-car listening, network design and Single Frequency Network resilience.
The program will also examine practical deployment strategies, including whether to adopt Multi-Frequency Networks or Single Frequency Networks, alongside real-world case studies and guidance for countries at different stages of DAB+ rollout. Organizers say the event also provides opportunities for delegates to engage directly with speakers and seek advice on establishing and expanding digital radio services.
The workshop will be moderated by Dr. Les Sabel, chair of the WorldDAB APAC Technical Group, with speakers including WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst, WorldDAB Technical Committee Chair Lindsay Cornell and South180 Research Director David Fernández Quijada.
Putera Afiq Zulfaqar, manager of production a delivery technology at the ABU, said, “the journey to digital radio is not just about technology; it is about collaboration, knowledge sharing, and creating lasting impact for broadcasters and audiences alike.”
