Audio Academy awards fellowships to Phillips, Sofos and Khatkar
The New York State Broadcasters Association concluded its 2026 regional training and awards series Oct. 2 after holding seven events across the state. NYSBA represents radio and television broadcasters across New York and provides advocacy, professional development, training and education programs for its members.
The gatherings combined professional development for radio and television broadcasters with recognition of recipients of the Excellence in Broadcasting and Serving New York Community Awards.
The series began in New York City on Sept. 17 before continuing to Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany. Each gathering opened with a training session led by Derron Steenbergen, president and founder of broadcast sales consultancy the Swagger Institute.
Steenbergen introduced sales and management teams to practical strategies, including using artificial intelligence to identify and research prospective clients. David Donovan, NYSBA senior policy adviser and the association’s former longtime president, presented the awards at each luncheon.
“It is a privilege to honor the inspiring broadcasters across our state who do so much for the industry and the communities they serve,” NYSBA President and Executive Director Heidi Raphael said. “These awards reflect the incredible talent, creativity and commitment to public service that define New York broadcasting.”
Quu, a provider of visual content and data services for in-vehicle radio displays, sponsored the statewide series.
