U.DAB launches largest small-scale DAB multiplex in the U.K.
GatesAir will introduce a modernized transmitter architecture for its entire range of DAB/DAB+ transmitters at IBC2025, designed to improve efficiency percentages by 50% or more in certain scenarios. The update includes new adjustable-voltage power supplies to reduce energy consumption, building on the company’s long-standing focus on RF and power efficiency in UHF television and FM radio.
First launched nearly 20 years ago, GatesAir’s PowerSmart architecture improved energy use in transmitters through innovations in amplifier design, power supplies and system integration. The latest update adds new transistor technology and smart software algorithms to manage power supplies, enabling the full DAB/DAB+ portfolio to deliver efficiencies of 50% or higher.
High-efficiency architecture
“DAB and DAB+ frequencies can carry up to 18 channels, and our new high-efficiency architecture for five transmitter lines provides customers with an adjustable palette to optimize bitrates, voltages and more,” said Raymond Miklius, vice president of technology at GatesAir.
The new design spans the VAXT, VAX-OP and PMTX-1 outdoor transmitter lines, with air-cooled models from 25 watts and liquid-cooled models up to 10 kW. All models support EDI connectivity and can integrate with GatesAir’s Intraplex ultra-low-latency IP transport solution, using SRT instead of ETI or satellite distribution and offering stream resilience through Dynamic Stream Splicing software.
GatesAir will also highlight its Flexiva FM transmitter range, now complete with the debut of a 3.5 kW model delivering efficiency levels of 76% or higher. The company will showcase its latest DAB+ transmitters, Intraplex transport solutions and Flexiva FM models at IBC2025, Stand 8.B75.
