The Society of Broadcast Engineers has appointed Andrew Sveum as marketing and growth director, a new position created as part of the organization’s strategic plan. He will focus on expanding the SBE’s reach, strengthening member engagement and supporting its long-term growth.
Sveum brings experience in business operations, nonprofit leadership, marketing, grant research and partnership development. He holds a political science degree with an emphasis on nonprofit management, grant research and nonprofit marketing and spent 20 years as a business owner.
He is also the founder and executive director of Freedom Rising, a U.S. nonprofit that works with international partners to combat human trafficking and support vulnerable communities. For more than a decade, Sveum has helped nonprofit organizations develop programs, establish partnerships, identify funding opportunities and plan for long-term growth.
Based in the United States, the SBE is a professional association for radio, television and multimedia technology specialists. It has more than 4,000 members in 117 chapters across the U.S., Hong Kong and Eastern Europe, as well as individual members in more than 25 other countries.
The organization provides technical education and operates a professional certification program for broadcast engineers, operators, technicians and broadcast IT specialists. Its other activities include coordinating radio-frequency use for program production and electronic news gathering, facilitating technical knowledge exchange and representing broadcast engineers on regulatory matters before U.S. federal agencies and Congress.
