Radio Tzafon has expanded its use of DHD Audio technology after upgrading its production facilities at the station’s headquarters in the Galilee region of northern Israel. The broadcaster operates two FM radio services and distributes content online, including catch-up programs and podcasts. Jerusalem-based systems integrator Broadcast Design designed, supplied and integrated the project.
Broadcast Design CEO Micha Blum said the project progressed in two phases. In the first phase, Radio Tzafon installed a 16-fader DHD SX2 modular console in Studio 1 and a DHD TX2 touchscreen mixer in the master control room.
“The Radio Tzafon team chose a 16-fader DHD SX2 modular console for Studio 1 plus a TX2 touchscreen mixer for the MCR,” Blum said. “They were so pleased with the ease of operation, versatility, high sound quality and desktop space efficiency of the DHD equipment that they decided to update another studio with a 10-fader SX2 plus a TX2 producer’s panel.”

Blum said both phases included Dante audio-over-IP connectivity. The station connects all four mixing panels to a DHD XC3 core processor. He added that the systems integrate with AVT telephone hybrids and give producers control through the TX2 panel and SX2 touchscreen. The installation also supports talkback between studios, logic exchange, shared resources such as codecs and remote monitoring.
DHD markets the SX2 as a modular mixing console for radio and broadcast applications. The company offers configurations ranging from four to 16 faders. The console includes direct microphone and headphone connections as well as integrated loudspeaker outputs, which DHD says reduce rack space and cabling requirements.
Radio Tzafon runs the installation on a DHD XC3 IP core. DHD says the platform supports up to 48 stereo faders and 72 stereo busses. Broadcasters can expand the system with DHD IPx modules to add AES67/Ravenna and Dante audio networking.
Radio Tzafon also cooperates with Israeli talk radio station 103FM. Broadcast Design said 103FM Chief Technology Officer Arik Ben David can provide off-site technical support through DHD’s Assist App and Views App.
