Radio France says its podcasts generated more than 81 million on-demand listens in May and accounted for 48% of all podcast downloads in France, according to EAR Podcast Médiamétrie data.
The French public broadcaster said the figures reinforce its position in the country’s on-demand audio market and highlight continued growth across its digital platforms. More than 39 million podcast listens were recorded through the Radio France app during the month, according to the broadcaster. The app offers weekly new releases alongside a catalog of more than 3.5 million audio items.
Radio France also reported what it described as a record level of listening on its owned platforms. The broadcaster said 60% of all podcast listening to its content now takes place through Radio France’s own website and app, rather than third-party distribution platforms.
According to Radio France, the growth in direct listening reflects changing audience habits and the increasing importance of owned platforms in podcast distribution. The broadcaster said the figures demonstrate the strategic value of maintaining a direct relationship with listeners at a time when audience data and content distribution have become increasingly important in the podcast sector.
The results come as broadcasters worldwide continue to balance distribution across third-party podcast platforms with efforts to drive audiences toward their own digital environments, where they have greater control over user experience, audience data and content discovery.
