MediaSet, one of Italy’s largest commercial television and media groups, and part of Media For Europe, has agreed to acquire Radio Norba, a leading private radio station based in southern Italy, according to reporting by radiospeaker.it. The deal involves the transfer of control of Genetiko. This company owns Radio Norba and produces large-scale live music events, including Battiti Live, a long-running televised concert series popular with Italian audiences.
The acquisition further expands Media For Europe’s radio division, which already operates national networks Radio 105, Virgin Radio, R101, Radio Monte Carlo and Radio Subasio. Radiospeaker.it reports that the move is intended to strengthen Mediaset’s position in radio by adding Radio Norba’s strong regional presence, particularly in southern Italy, to its national portfolio.
Founded in the 1980s, Radio Norba has built a significant audience across the Apulia and Basilicata regions and is known for its contemporary music format and close ties to live events and regional culture. According to radiospeaker.it, this established local identity was a key factor in Mediaset’s decision to pursue the acquisition.
Marco Montrone, president of Radio Norba and the station’s founder’s son, will remain in his role as chief executive officer following the transaction. Radiospeaker.it reports that this is intended to ensure editorial continuity while enabling closer integration with Mediaset’s wider television, radio and digital operations.
The acquisition is expected to create synergies across radio, television and live events, particularly in advertising sales and cross-platform content development, as Mediaset continues to consolidate its position in the Italian audio market.
