International media organizations warn over Czech public media funding debate
Belgian local broadcaster ClubFM has opened new headquarters and radio studios in Zele, a town in East Flanders, marked by an open studio weekend on Sept. 6–7.
ClubFM, which programs 1990s hits and contemporary tracks, relocated its offices and studio infrastructure last summer to a building near the town’s central marketplace. The move followed the death of station CEO Ives De Wilde earlier this year.
Sebastien Vansever, ClubFM sound engineer, said the new headquarters provide more space and allowed for a full technical upgrade. The facility now includes two studios, offices, a meeting room, reception hall and a coffee corner.
Cost-conscious solutions
Both studios were designed specifically for the new site. ClubFM opted for cost-conscious solutions rather than a fully digital setup, installing two D&R Airence broadcast mixers. Each studio is equipped with Shure SM7B microphones and a ProppFrexx On Air Enterprise playout system, supported by Symmetrix Airtools processors. One studio operates as the main on-air room, with the second used for production, pre-recording and as a backup.
The signal is delivered via AoIP to ClubFM’s FM transmitters in Zele (106.6 MHz) and Ghent (106.4 MHz), processed with Stereotool 3.0. The station also broadcasts digitally via DAB+ on the East Flanders 10C multiplex, operated by Broadcast Partners, and streams on the RadioPlayer platform.
ClubFM employs 10 staff members who produce 20 daily news bulletins, both local and national, as well as advertising. Vansever said the investment in new facilities ensures the station is prepared for the demands of a changing media environment.
