Commercial Radio & Audio, in partnership with Triton Digital, has released the November 2025 Australian Podcast Ranker, the country’s official third-party verified podcast measurement system. A cross-industry steering committee governs the Ranker and includes participation from commercial, independent and non-commercial publishers, providing a standard benchmark for podcast measurement in Australia, CRA says.

November data shows that news remained the most-listened-to podcast genre in Australia, reaching 4.86 million monthly listeners. Society and culture ranked second with 4.44 million listeners, while comedy ranked third with 2.99 million. True crime attracted 2.64 million monthly listeners, narrowly ahead of sports with 2.63 million, rounding out the top five genres for the month, according to CRA.

Podcasts travel with Australians — literally

At the individual podcast level, “Hamish & Andy,” produced by LiSTNR for Southern Cross Austereo, topped the November rankings with 842,414 monthly listeners. “Mamamia Out Loud” followed with 655,915 listeners, ahead of “ABC News Top Stories,” which reached 645,709. “Shameless” ranked fourth with 510,035 listeners, while “Sky News Australia Update” completed the top five at 461,512.

Behavior linked to travel plans

CRA also highlighted listening behavior linked to travel plans. Demos+ survey data shows that among monthly podcast listeners planning an international trip in the next year, 48% listen to business podcasts, around 23 percentage points above the average podcast listener. Health and fitness content attracts 47% of this group, while technology and sports podcasts are each listened to by 45%.

Listeners planning domestic travel show a different pattern. Half of these listeners tune into arts podcasts, while 48% listen to news, health and fitness or true crime. CRA says this points to opportunities for brands to reach audiences earlier in the travel decision cycle through podcast advertising.

“Podcasts travel with Australians — literally,” said Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA. “Whether it’s an overseas adventure or an interstate escape, listeners are tuning in across genres, anytime, anywhere. The Ranker gives advertisers the verified data to understand these audiences and reach them through voices they already trust on their own terms.”
