Triton Digital and RCS connect OTA radio to programmatic buying
Welsh community and hospital broadcaster Radio BGM has upgraded its main studio with a DHD.Audio SX2 audio mixing console and XC3 Core signal processor as part of a wider effort to modernize and futureproof its broadcast infrastructure. Broadcast Solutions Connect, DHD’s distribution partner in the U.K., supplied the system.
Radio BGM began operations in 1974 at Bryntirion Hospital in Llanelli, South West Wales, before relocating in 1990 to studios near the main entrance of the nearby Prince Philip Hospital. The station broadcasts in English and Welsh on 94.9 FM, online and through mobile apps. The broadcaster says its volunteer-led team has received multiple Hospital Broadcasting Awards, including Station of the Year in 2025.
Rupert Brun, technical representative at Broadcast Solutions Connect, said the project focused on combining operational flexibility with ease of use for volunteers with differing levels of technical experience. “The Radio BGM team required a facility that can handle all current and foreseen broadcast requirements as well as presenting operators with a user interface they can master quickly and easily,” Brun added.
Impressive configurability
He said that the DHD system’s configurability was an important factor for the station. “Radio BGM’s team was impressed by the configurability of the DHD audio consoles, allowing them to use personalized configurations which provide the precise information and functions they need,” Brun explained.
The installation includes a DHD XC3 IP core with analog inputs and outputs, along with a 64 x 64 Dante AoIP interface. Brun said the Dante integration simplifies installation and allows routing changes as workflows evolve.
Broadcast Solutions Connect also integrated the DHD Views App, which provides mixer control displays on external screens, and the Assist App, which allows technicians to support presenters remotely via a web browser.
According to DHD, the SX2 system is based around a four-fader central control surface with optional six-fader expansion modules. The company says the modular architecture allows broadcasters to expand functionality through additional DSP licensing options for extra faders, busses and clean feeds. The XC3 IP core supports up to 48 stereo faders and 72 stereo busses within a 1U chassis. The company adds that optional IPx expansion modules can extend the XC3 system to support up to 128 channels of AES67/Ravenna IP audio and up to 512 Dante channels.
