WorldDAB has released the program for its upcoming summit in London on Nov. 17. The WorldDAB Summit is the organization’s annual flagship event that brings together experts from across the broadcast radio, automotive and receiver manufacturer industries to discuss developments that have influenced the radio industry. The Summit is open to members and non-members. This year’s event, hosted by well-known tech broadcaster Spencer Kelly, will be both virtual and in-person at King’s Place, King’s Cross in London.
There are four sessions over the day, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Given that automotive is a crucial area of work for many WorldDAB members, the organizers have dedicated the third session between 1 p.m. and 2.15 p.m. to the in-car audio experience.
Diana Franganillo, the director of in-vehicle UX research at Strategy Analytics, will speak on Trends in voice control and in-car audio; Lindsey Mack, senior manager of DAB and external affairs at BBC Sounds and David Holroyd, Global’s director of technology, will discuss the importance of in-car metadata for broadcasters; and Gregor Pötzsch, radio product owner with Cariad, the Volkswagen Group’s automotive software company, will explain how the company sees DAB in the dashboard.
Later in the session, Laurence Harrison, the director of automotive partnerships at Radioplayer Worldwide, will discuss metadata further and suggest what the industry’s future will look like; and Joe D’Angelo, the senior VP of broadcast radio at Xperi Inc., will develop the concept of personalizing the in-car audio experience.
Key questions WorldDAB expects the speakers to address include the following: is DAB radio in the car important, how can we ensure stations look and sound their best in the car, what are the future trends in the car, what do car manufacturers want from DAB broadcasters, and where is DAB going to fit within the new personalization in the vehicle?
