The Shameless Girls and Squiz Media are top of the pods

Shameless Girls and Squiz Today

The Australian Podcast Ranker from Triton Digital has debuted two new podcasts to its top 10 list for February.  Pop culture podcast Shameless is new in at number four, while independent news title The Squiz Today has made its debut at number nine.

“We are pleased to welcome The Shameless Girls and Squiz Media as new publishers,” said Ford Ennals, chief executive officer of industry body Commercial Radio & Audio, which commissions the ranker. “They are successful podcast publishers who have had a huge impact on the podcast scene and their addition means that nine out of the top 10 titles this month are Australian-produced shows.”

Shameless describes itself as a podcast for “smart people who love dumb stuff” and is hosted by Melbourne journalists Zara McDonald and Michelle Andrews, while the Squiz Today has gained a strong daily since its launch in 2017.

CRA and IAB Australia figures show podcasting attracted $82.5 million in ad spend in Australia in 2022 and predictions are that podcast advertising will continue to grow strongly with 78% of media agencies intending to increase investment in 2023.

The Australian Podcast Ranker provides a monthly snapshot of the top 150 podcasts consumed in Australia among participating publishers.  It is produced in accordance with IAB Tech Lab’s Podcast Measurement Guidelines. A total of 80.5 million podcasts were downloaded in the month of February.
