It is with great sadness that the RedTech team has learned of the passing of senior radio engineer and consultant Gary Kline after a long illness. He was a good friend and tireless supporter of our work, never turning down an invite for guidance and input.
After holding engineering positions at NBC Radio, ABC and various other media organizations, Gary joined Cumulus Media in 1999, eventually becoming senior V.P. of broadcast engineering, where he steered some of the group’s biggest engineering projects.
He left Cumulus in 2016 to form the Kline Consulting Group, where he shared his expertise and knowledge to guide media companies in broadcast technology, podcast engineering, visual radio and other facets of broadcast IT.
Gary was omnipresent at all major radio broadcast conventions, always on hand to provide calm, measured and clear guidance on panels and as a popular speaker. He was energetic, always enthusiastic and generous with his time and insight, and his sharp eye and enquiring mind knew no boundaries.
When we drew up the list of industry authorities for last year’s RedTech Summit in Paris, Gary’s name was at the top — we knew his presence would inspire those attending. On all matters at the intersection of radio technology and strategy, it helped to be able to look across the room and wonder, “What is Gary thinking?”
