Australia’s radio broadcasters association, Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA), is looking for the next recipient of the annual Brian White Scholarship. The four-week paid scholarship/internship is awarded to “a communications or arts major including recent graduates who aspire to a career in radio news.”
It adds, “This prestigious program will enable the scholarship winner to transition to a career in news reporting through practical experience.” The application deadline is July 31.
According to CRA is the finalists will be chosen by news directors from Australian broadcast staples such as ARN (Australian Radio Network), Nova, SCA (Southern Cross Austereo) and Nine Radio.
In addition, a release explains, “Finalists will be invited in to participate in a one day workshop which will be held in Sydney during September 2023 with transport provided for interstate finalists.”
The scholarship website explains: “The successful applicant will be immersed in the news cycle and will relish the chance to sit in the same room as senior journalists at commercial radio stations to experience how the news is sourced and compiled.”
The Brian White Scholarship was inaugurated in 2017. It is named after Brian White, a long-serving journalist, station manager and noted Australian news-talk pioneer.
