Lawo has released version 4.0 of its Home platform, introducing architectural upgrades and a new licensing model designed to simplify IP device management at any scale.
Home is Lawo’s IP-native infrastructure management platform that connects, manages and secures Home-native, third-party and NMOS devices across on-premises and cloud environments. It enables centralized routing, configuration and parameter control, supporting seamless integration of IP workflows.
With version 4.0, Lawo has introduced Home Passes — a licensing model that scales automatically with the number of managed devices. There is no charge for the Home platform itself. Users only pay for the number of third-party or NMOS devices they actively manage, with Passes available as permanent licenses or through Lawo’s Flex Subscription credits. Lawo states that this model is particularly well-suited for infrastructures where the number of active devices fluctuates over time.
All new Lawo devices and apps running Home 4.0 or higher include the necessary Home Passes by default. An upgrade path is available for existing users, and the new system replaces previous Home Core licenses with a more transparent and predictable cost structure.
Expanded access and onboarding
Lawo says one of the most significant changes in version 4.0 is that the Home platform software itself is now available at no cost. This, it says, allows broadcasters and content creators to deploy the system in smaller or temporary environments without upfront licensing costs. To simplify onboarding, all newly purchased Lawo devices and Home apps now include the required Home Passes, and an upgrade path is in place for existing customers.
According to Lawo, Home 4.0 is built on a cloud-native, containerised microservices architecture designed to manage and secure IP-based workflows at any scale. The platform supports industry standards including SMPTE ST2110, AES67, NMOS IS-04 and IS-05, IEEE 802.1x and Radius, enabling integration with a wide range of third-party and NMOS-compliant devices. Lawo says the platform is already widely used in OB trucks, remote production environments, and cloud-based facilities worldwide.
