YouTube has become the most-used podcast platform among weekly podcast listeners in the U.K., according to new data from Edison Research.

The company says Edison Podcast Metrics U.K. shows that 29% of weekly podcast listeners aged 15 and older now choose YouTube as the service they use most to consume podcasts. Spotify follows closely at 28%, marking the first time YouTube has overtaken Spotify in the U.K. podcast market.

Edison says the shift comes nearly two years after YouTube first moved ahead of Spotify in the United States. However, the company notes that YouTube’s rise in the U.K. has developed more slowly, partly because of the strength of public media in the market.

BBC Sounds, the BBC’s dedicated audio streaming platform, remains a significant player in U.K. podcast listening. Edison says 15% of U.K. podcast consumers use BBC Sounds as their primary service, a level of public media platform use that far exceeds comparable services in the U.S.

Edison Research at SSRS will present more findings from its U.K. Podcast Consumer Report 2026 during a webinar on July 16 at 2 p.m. BST. You can register for that webinar here.
