Comrex says it is now shipping FieldLink, a sideline reporting codec using mobile phones. FieldLink utilizes the free Comrex app, FieldTap, available for iOS and Android which allows up to four concurrent users.
FieldLink has a built-in Power-over-Ethernet port for connecting and powering a private Wi-Fi access point. Reporters/users download FieldTap on their mobile device, connect to FieldLInk’s private Wi-Fi and are internally conferenced together when connected. FieldLink can be interfaced to an external mixer or directly interfaced to the Comrex Access NX Portable, which has a special mix-minus mode for use with FieldLink.
Developed for broadcasters as a cost-effective alternative to expensive wireless microphones and IFBs, FieldLink uses 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi channels to deliver studio quality audio from up to 300 meters from the press box or central broadcast location. The free FieldTap app uses the Opus coding algorithm for both send and return FM broadcast quality audio.
Also available are accessories for FieldLink such as XLR to USB-C adapters for interfacing a professional microphone with USB-C mobile devices, Wi-Fi access point mounting accessories and studio signal lights for showing when a reporter is ready to contribute.
