Super Hi-Fi has released an improved HLS-based protocol streaming technology called HLS+ which the company says it “developed exclusively for radio.”
According to the announcement, “HLS+ is the first-of-its-kind technology to combine live, linear radio with the power of interactivity and deep personalization all in the same audio stream, while simultaneously ensuring backward compatibility with billions of existing devices.”
U.S. radio broadcaster Audacy has already signed on support. “Audacy’s entire offering of over 700 exclusive stations will be upgraded to HLS+ by the end of the month,” a release explained.
Besides radio broadcasters adopting HLS+ several equipment manufacturers such as Telos Alliance, Xperi, StreamGuys, Orban and Barix have signaled support.
HLS+ won’t be a techno cul de sac according to the announcement, “HLS+ ensures backward compatibility with countless existing devices worldwide, including Amazon Alexa, iPhone, Android, and many in-car entertainment systems. Designed with integration at its core, it supports an extensive range of metadata capabilities, making it compatible with most existing playout and broadcast systems for FM, HD, DAB+ and online solutions.”
It adds, “Moreover, HLS+ is advertising-ready, supporting numerous programmatic ad services and integrating seamlessly with traditional radio traffic systems.”
