Super Hi-Fi has partnered with Cumulus Media and Xperi, Inc. to introduce two new over-the-air HD Radio channels in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States. The partnership aims to leverage “The Hill” and “Nashville Songwriter Radio” channels to test and develop highly localized radio programs and services tailored for the connected car environment.

Located on 104.5FM HD2 and HD3, these stations are now accessible to listeners with HD Radio-equipped vehicles in the Nashville area. The initiative combines Xperi’s HD Radio technology and DTS AutoStage system with Super Hi-Fi’s ‘Program Director‘ radio operating system and Cumulus Media’s broadcasting capabilities.

“The Hill” is designed to resonate with high school students, featuring a diverse playlist across genres like pop, hip-hop, alternative, and country. This station was developed in partnership with Green Hill High School in Mt Juliet, Tennessee, offering students an opportunity to participate in programming and gain hands-on experience in broadcasting.

“Nashville Songwriter Radio” aims to showcase the talent within Nashville’s songwriter community, playing music written and performed by local artists. The station celebrates the city’s rich musical heritage and the storytelling that has made Nashville famous.

The logical next step

Zack Zalon, CEO of Super Hi-Fi, shared his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Super Hi-Fi is excited to collaborate with Xperi and Cumulus to create these ground-breaking HD Radio experiences. Joe D’Angelo, senior vice president of broadcast and digital audio at Xperi, emphasized the significance of this development for digital audio in vehicles, “We see this as the logical next step in our collaboration with both the radio and automotive industries. Bringing new capabilities to the market will provide valuable services to broadcasters and advertisers and, most importantly, improve the listening experience for end users.”

Conrad Trautmann, CTO at Cumulus Media, highlighted the benefits of this partnership for reaching new audiences, saying, “By partnering with Super Hi-Fi and Xperi, we are adopting innovative technology that allows us to connect to new, local communities with targeted programming by leveraging our HD radio ancillary channels that have the potential to reach different audiences around the country.”
