MaxxKonnect acquires FCCInfo.com

Broadcast technology and engineering services company MaxxKonnect Group has acquired FCCInfo.com from Cavell, Mertz & Associates. The free database and mapping service helps broadcast engineers, consultants and station operators search records from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, including broadcast, auxiliary, microwave, land mobile and antenna structure information.

FCCInfo.com, which Cavell Mertz made publicly available in 2002, also lets users view station facilities, microwave paths and registered antenna structures in Google Earth. MaxxKonnect plans to maintain the current services while updating the site’s software and assessing additional features. The company may add optional premium features, but says it has no plans to put existing search tools behind a paywall.

MaxxKonnect President and CEO Josh Bohn emphasized that the acquisition will preserve the service’s existing value to users. “FCCInfo is an essential tool for a lot of people in broadcasting, including our own engineering staff. We didn’t acquire it to change what people like about it. Our first priority is to make sure it continues to operate reliably. From there, we want to update the technology behind it and develop additional capabilities that make it even more useful. And I want to be very clear that the services people have been using for free will stay free,” he said.

The acquisition adds FCCInfo.com to MaxxKonnect’s broadcast engineering, consulting and technical services, wireless and satellite connectivity solutions, and MonitorMaxx monitoring and operations products. Cavell Mertz will continue to advise on the service, providing engineering expertise and continuity during the transition.

Cavell, Mertz & Associates cofounder Gary Cavell welcomed the handover and MaxxKonnect’s plans for the service. “FCCInfo has been an important part of our work at Cavell Mertz for more than two decades. We’re pleased that MaxxKonnect is taking responsibility for the service and has committed to keeping its existing resources available to the industry. Their engineering and software capabilities provide a good foundation for maintaining and improving the platform, and we look forward to continuing to work with them,” he said.
