Mulembe FM targets the Luhya community in Kenya

Kenya’s Mulembe FM has an AEQ Forum Split digital console at the heart of its new main studio.

Mulembe FM targets the Luhya community in Kenya and those interested in the Luhya lifestyle. Mulembe is a Luhya word that means peace, and the station’s motto is “Omwoyo kwa Baluhya,” meaning Luhya’s heartbeat. The station broadcasts in the dialect understood by the 17 sub-tribes of the Luhya people. Presenters host transformative programs segmented to suit the audience’s needs, covering numerous social, political and economic issues. These provide a platform for the listeners to learn and share ideas that positively impact their lives.

When it came time to renovate the studios, the station’s technical team selected Jamiro Broadcast, AEQ’s local partner in Kenya, saying they wanted a whole new system. Jamiro Broadcast recommended a 100% IP configuration that would allow the team to take advantage of the Dante network from the Forum IP Split console to the transmitter.

The AEQ Forum Split is suited for live studios. It incorporates all the essential characteristics: automatic monitor cut-off, cough cut-off, fader-start, signaling control, control signals for the automation of external equipment, external communications management and an intercom. With modular design and reduced size, the console can adapt to different scenarios: self-control, control-studio, television production controls, sound production, mixed configurations, and integration into more extensive installations.

The Phoenix Venus 3 audio codec facilitated the integration of the console with the transmitter via IP connectivity. It transports uncompressed audio from the studio. It has balanced analog audio inputs and outputs at professional line level with XLR connector and AES/EBU digital audio inputs and outputs and optional AoIP connectivity with Dante protocol.

Thanks to the IP configuration, Mulembe FM can broadcast live remotely in high quality, allowing presenters and technicians to control and supervise the transmission from any location.
