EBU report tracks five years of radio listening trends across Europe

The European Broadcasting Union has published “Audio Trends — Radio 2026,” a new report examining how radio listening has evolved across Europe between 2020 and 2025. Drawing on official audience measurement data from national radio audience measurement systems across EBU member countries, the report benchmarks radio consumption using common metrics including time spent listening, weekly reach and market share.

Among its key findings, the report shows that Europeans spent an average of 2 hours and 10 minutes listening to radio each day in 2025, while 71% of young Europeans tuned in every week. It also found that public service media continues to play a leading role, with the main public service radio station ranking as the market leader in 47% of the countries included in the study.

The report presents listening trends across the entire radio market using time spent listening and weekly reach data. It examines the performance of public service media radio services through weekly reach and daily market share. It also includes a breakdown of listening behavior by age group and an analysis of changes in radio consumption over the past five years.

The EBU said the report is intended to provide a comparative overview of radio audience trends across its member countries, using harmonized metrics to enable benchmarking between markets.

The full report is available to EBU members, but the organization has published a concise version for non-members. You can view or download it below.
