Italian broadcast association Aeranti-Corallo has released additional analysis of the latest Audiradio audience data, highlighting the continued strength of local radio listening and the car’s dominant role as a listening environment.
The analysis follows the publication of Audiradio’s first-quarter 2026 report, which covers national radio listening between Jan. 27 and April 13, 2026, and local radio listening across a rolling six-month period from Oct. 14, 2025, to April 13, 2026.
According to Aeranti-Corallo, local radio stations collectively attract 29.8 million daily listeners. The association also noted that a local station is the most-listened-to radio service in four Italian regions, outperforming both national stations and other local broadcasters in those markets. It also added that eight local stations attract larger daily audiences than at least one national station. In comparison, nine local stations record a higher average quarter-hour audience than at least one national broadcaster.
The association’s analysis also examined listening devices. Car radios remain the most widely used platform, reaching 27.5 million listeners, while traditional radio receivers attract 9.9 million listeners. Smartphones account for 4 million listeners, ahead of smart speakers and voice assistants at 1.9 million. Radio delivered through television channels reaches 4.3 million listeners.
Outside the home, the car remains radio’s primary listening location. Aeranti-Corallo said 27.8 million of the 30.2 million people who listen to radio away from home do so in a vehicle. Listening at work ranks second with 3.9 million listeners.
Aeranti-Corallo said the figures demonstrate radio’s continued reach in Italy despite increasing competition from other media platforms, while local broadcasters continue to maintain strong connections with their audiences.
