Weekly U.S. podcast downloads total 218 m; NPR holds top spot

The popular “NPR News Now” podcast has kept its spot at the top of the U.S. Podcast Charts for the fourth month in a row, according to Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service. 

The NPR podcast has topped the charts every month since the start of 2022, with April’s stats placing “Crime Junkie” (audiochuck/SXM Media) in second positiion and “The Ben Shapiro Show” (Cumulus Podcast Network) in third place. 

Average weekly downloads for the top 20 publishers in the U.S. now totals 218 million downloads. In Triton’s April Report, Stitcher Media remained in the top spot on the Top Networks Report with 53.0 million average weekly downloads and 13.9 million average weekly users, followed by NPR in second place with 32.7 million average weekly downloads and 6.9 million average weekly users, and Audacy Podcast Network with 29.5 million average weekly downloads and 8.0 million average weekly users. 

New shows that debuted this period for downloads and listeners included, “Very Scary People” (WarnerMedia), and “Murder With My Husband” (Cloud10). “Real Ghost Stories Online” (Audioboom) debuted for downloads, while “Critical Role” (Stitcher Media) and “Snapped: Women Who Murder” (Wondery) debuted for listeners.
