VRT to Install OmniPlayer 3 in Radio Stations

Public broadcaster VRT shares news and information related education, culture, entertainment and sports with its community. The broadcaster reaches up to 90% of residents in the Flanders region of Belgium through three TV channels, five radio stations and several digital channels.

The media house has chosen to replace its existing production, playout and broadcast system for several radio stations with OmniPlayer 3. The stations are moving into a new office building soon, and the impending technological changes partially inspired the change, said the broadcaster.

‘We were ready for a new, futureproof system for the production and broadcasting of radio,” said Wim Ermens, project manager for technology at VRT.

“Besides replacing our existing system, we’ll also be focusing on a more accessible user interface for our different editorial teams and studios. A connection will be made with the iNews editorial system via MOS, an integration with MusicMaster and with RadioManager by Pluxbox.”

The OmniPlayer system will be implemented for stations Radio 1, Radio 2, Klara, MNM, Studio Brussel, streaming, DAB+ channels, VRT Nieuwsdienst and Sporza.

‘With the Flemish broadcaster, we now have four major Belgian media companies using our radio automation and playout system,” said Peter van Klei, commercial director of M&I Broadcast Services. “The OmniPlayer API will take on an important role for web-based interfaces for the studios and other integrations,” noted Klei.
