Vortex issues CallMe-diRECt multi-user upgrade

Vortex has issued an enhancement to its well-established CallMe-diRECt Cloud Codec service. The diRECt-X upgrade provides simultaneous conferencing up to five separate contributors plus the host (six in total), with each receiving a mix-minus or clean-feed return audio from the server. Neither the host nor guests require a hardware codec; everything takes place within the browser.

New guest contributors send a link or QR code that connects them to the server, where the host can add them to the session using the browser interface, which initiates low-delay 20 kHz two-way Opus audio streaming. The host can enable echo cancellation to avoid the need for guests to have separate headsets. The streams are end-to-end encrypted, and in-browser recordings are downloaded to the host in the background for later use if necessary.
