Triton releases September Podcast Ranker

Triton Digital has released its latest U.S. Podcast Ranker, covering the period between Sept. 4 and Oct. 1.

This particular edition is a bit of an outlier because it doesn’t have any podcasts from podcast production powerhouse NPR “due to a planned data collection migration.” It is expected back next month. That doesn’t mean their programs were not still being heard.

As the old koan sagely asks, “If a podcast is not measured, is it not heard?”

But back to the horse race.

With NPR sidelined, the other lords of the podcast, e.g. SiriusXM and Wondery flexed their muscles claiming most of the top spots. Plucky contenders such as Audacy Podcast Network, Cumulus Podcast Network and Audioboom were able to get their programs better visibility.

Depending upon your measure, “Top Podcasts By Weekly Average Download” or “Top Podcasts By Weekly Average Users,” NBC Universal News Group’s “Dateline NBC,” always a strong performer, or “Crime Junkie,” respectively, led the way followed by several other crime podcasts along with a few more than usual political/news podcasts.
