The Radio Academy announces Foot in The Door training day in Leeds

The Radio Academy has announced details of its Foot in The Door training and connections day at Leeds University on Wednesday, Nov. 8. From 12 midday to 7 p.m.

Foot in the Door is a one-day event for people at entry and early career level in audio to build skills development and open access to people and expertise through training workshops and a facilitated speed-networking session.

The event in Leeds is sponsored by Audible, with support from The Radio Academy’s partners: Arqiva, BBC Sounds, Broadcast Bionics, dts and aim from Xperi, Markettiers, MusicMaster Scheduling from On Air, Radio News Hub and RCS.

A three-hour program of training workshops and talks with national, regional and local audio industry leaders and practitioners will start shortly after midday, covering sessions on program production, podcasting, social media, brand development, music radio, news and speech audio, imaging, and technology. Attendees can choose from multiple sessions, and there will be plenty of time throughout the day to chat with others and share newly gained knowledge.

Speed networking session

This program will be followed by a 90-minute facilitated speed networking session, where delegates will meet a cross-section of audio professionals and learn about opportunities and career paths available in different areas of audio. Industry experts will be at fixed tables, and delegates will move around in small groups from table to table. All delegates will attend each table and have a chance to talk to every expert, gaining tips and practical steps to get a foot in the door into the industry.

The event will then open into an informal social event with The Radio Academy’s Yorkshire Branch, where members are invited to join in and make connections over a drink.

Tickets are available now, costing £6 for Radio Academy members or £12 for non-members. Tickets include light refreshments on the day and the first drink in the bar.

The Radio Academy will announce speakers and industry guests over the coming weeks. Previous Training Days included speakers from the BBC Radio, commercial and independent production audio sector, plus U.K.-wide presenters, content producers and leaders.
