Tech Focus: fernBox delivers compact, plug-and-play audio connectivity

Ferncast notes that space is at a premium in any studio and saving power is both economic and ecological. However, a modern studio also requires many different devices to function.

Ferncast has a solution for that dilemma that makes audio delivery and recording as affordable and simple as possible.

The fernBox ensures users get the most out of the available space. Instead of a large rack unit, it is a palm-sized box that fits nicely on a desk, and unlike many rack solutions, the fernBox can handle multiple delivery paths at once. It can stream live audio directly to the web or to CDNs, deliver podcasts to the relevant platforms,  or transport a microMPX or MPEG TS to transmitters. Despite its size, the fernBox is not lacking in power, and even a single unit can handle most, if not all, necessary audio delivery.

Inputs can be AES67, Ravenna, Livewire, or Dante network, or you can use one of the USB audio interfaces you likely already have around for easy analog or digital I/O.
