RTM Installs Six Calrec Type R Radio Consoles

As part of its regional transition to an IP infrastructure, Radio Television Malaysia has taken delivery of six Calrec Type R radio consoles.

Malaysia’s public broadcaster has installed the consoles at its regional station, PerlisFM, located in the northern Perlis state of the country. With the studio upgrade and move to an IP audio environment, RTM says the facility will serve as reference for all of its future upgrades to other regional stations.

Specifically, RTM has fitted PerlisFM with a complete radio system, including a full IP network and visual radio technology, which supports video streaming to social media and other online platforms.

Calrec explains that its native IP Type R consoles are located in PerlisFM’s main Conty, Standby Conty, Edit (1 and 2), Ingest, News Depot Studios and Master Control Room respectively. At the main Conty Studio, the Type R console integrates with RCS Zetta radio automation software and multiCAM system’s visual radio system that uses three PTZ cameras.

Calrec’s Malaysia distributor, JAA Systems managed the project with VME Broadcast acting as the main contractor and Medialab Alliance as the system integrator.

PerlisFM studios in Malaysia now feature Calrec’s Type R radio consoles.

“We are very honored to be part of this transformation of RTM’s radio infrastructure, which places it at the cutting edge of modern radio,” said David Chan, Director at JAA Systems.

“Calrec’s Type R for Radio is perfect for this installation. Perhaps the biggest challenge that we faced during the setup was adhering to strict Covid 19 rules. We knew that any infection at all could have meant shutting down the facility for sanitization plus quarantining all personnel and that had to be avoided at all costs. We believe this IP installation points to the future of radio across Malaysia and beyond.“
