Radio TechCon 2021 Announces Event Line-Up

The organizers of Radio TechCon 2021 have released some tantalizing teasers of what (virtual) delegates can expect on Nov. 29:

  • How to attract new technical talent to radio and how to make them stay. Dilani Selvanathan has worked at the BBC and is a specialist in attracting new talent to engineering. What does she advise to encourage engineers-to-be to choose a career in radio?
  • The team at LBC radio show off their newest studio at Millbank, designed for TV.
  • Boom without a box — Radio TechCon’s host, David Lloyd, turns speaker as he and technical legend Quentin Howard explain the technology behind Boom Radio — the station built without a building.
  • Neutrinowatch: the ever-changing podcast — Martin Austwick from Answer Me This! on creating a podcast which makes itself.
  • How South Africa is going digital without choosing sides — using a mixture of DRM and DAB+.
  • Experts from Fraunhofer and BBC R&D explain why source separation ‘unmixing’ might be something to try.
  • How to be an Active Bystander — an introduction to the skills needed if witnessing bullying and harassment at work.
  • An update on the BBC East Bank project — from concrete mixers to music mixes.
  • Bespoke syndication — a new way to tackle the splits, invented and demonstrated by Gav Richards.
  • A mini-masterclass on latency — it’s not just echo and delay! Delegates will get a refresher on the basics and learn the advanced skills they need to ensure seamless remote collaboration.
  • The team from BBC Maker Box will share their innovative tools that anyone can use.
  • Watch Your Tone — Regina Chandran wanted to create Indian music on her editing software. But she found it couldn’t handle Indian music ragas. So, she set out to solve the problem…
  • And Stephnie Hirst returns with TechCon’s famous Quiz — complete with prizes!

The organizers also say that their online platform (Airmeet) will enable delegates are fully interactive throughout the day. There will also be virtual lounges where delegates can meet other delegates face-to-face or match at random in a networking roulette game. Plus, during the talks, delegates can ask questions live — as if they were in an actual venue — and share their reactions and chat with other delegates.

Here’s the bonus: all delegates will receive official CPD accreditation from the IET.

The organisers says tickets for Radio TechCon 2021 have a special pandemic price of just £99 + VAT and are available here.

The virtual doors open at 9 a.m. UK time with sessions running from 10 a.m. until 5.15 p.m.
