The Radio Group acquires Antenne NRW

For the first time in Germany’s private radio sector, a traditional startup process has resulted in the acquisition of a broadcast brand. As of July 1, The Radio Group has acquired Antenne NRW, a premium audio brand launched in 2021.

According to the involved parties, the decision was made to find a strategic buyer with experience in developing young brands, a willingness to innovate, and the ability to leverage synergies — all qualities that the parties claim the nationally active The Radio Group offers.

“With the acquisition of the Antenne NRW brand, we are expanding our local reach portfolio with another strong product,” said Tim Lauth, CEO of The Radio Group, which currently includes 18 radio stations. “We look forward to continuing the success story of Antenne NRW and offering both audiences in North Rhine-Westphalia and advertisers a compelling environment. We also want to thank those responsible for successfully building and launching the brand.” The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Antenne NRW Managing Director Julia Schutz added, “I’m pleased to see the brand value we’ve built at Antenne NRW being further strengthened and developed. My thanks go to the team in Cologne, whose dedication was instrumental in shaping the brand into what it is today. With The Radio Group, we’ve found a strong buyer, and our NRW startup brand fits well within their network.”
