An ad which highlights the plight of the homeless has scored a brace of awards at the annual Siren Awards for radio advertising held in Sydney, Australia.

Dave Hughes & CRA CEO Ford Ennals

Wunderman Thompson’s “The Cold Campaign” for Anglicare WA won the coveted Gold and Silver Siren Awards for 2022’s best radio ad, while the company made it a hat trick with the “Best radio campaign” award for its “Dracula comes to Crown for WA Ballet.”

Creatives Matt Wilson, Luke Williams and Joe Hawkins accepted the awards at a ceremony hosted by comedian and 2DayFM breakfast presenter Dave Hughes. The winning ad highlights the dangers of sleeping rough in winter via the concept of “temperature contagion,” a scientific phenomenon where people unknowingly cool their own body temperature when seeing or hearing someone who is suffering from the cold.

Chief executive officer of awards organizer Commercial Radio Australia, Ford Ennals said “Australia has some of the best creative talent in the world and the winning ‘The Cold Campaign’ highlighted the craft of outstanding radio creative at its best with the ability to break through, be memorable and make listeners relate to an important social issue.”

The Siren Awards celebrate excellence and creativity in radio advertising and were held in front of an audience of advertising agency and radio industry attendees.
