Pakistan Broadcasting Corp. Takes DRM Digital Steps

The Pakistani public broadcaster recently announced a three-stage plan to digitize its operations using Digital Radio Mondiale digital radio technology.

According to reports, while the budget for each phase of the project is currently in the planning process, Radio Pakistan has already identified the location of the first high-power digital transmitter.

The broadcaster in fact has placed a sign in Sariab Road, Quetta announcing the future location of a 100-kW DRM sender.

“The new digital service will grant many locals in the Quetta area access good-quality audio programs and artists in their native languages,” comments the DRM consortium.

Once the government finalizes the budget, it says it’ll publish a public tender in order to acquire the transmitter.
