NOA to Participate in FIAT/IFTA 2020 Virtual Seminar

FIAT/IFTA Regional Seminar 2020 takes places virtually Sept. 29–30.

NOA GmbH will participate in the FIAT/IFTA Regional Seminar 2020, which takes place virtually Sept. 29–30.

Organized in collaboration with Brazilian public broadcaster TV Cultura, FIAT/IFTA will feature two days of online presentations and discussions.

This year’s seminar highlights a number of aspects relative to the archiving domain. It’ll take a look at the audiovisual scene in Latin America — one of the richest in the world. In addition, the event will study how the digitization of visual culture repertoires has altered media consumption.

“Media archives are not only an asset in the economic sense, but perhaps even more in the cultural and political sense,” the organization states on its website. “How to manage…and valorize these archives is therefore not just an investment for and by shareholders, but for and by society as a whole.”

Jean-Christophe Kummer is NOA managing director.

Jean-Christophe Kummer, NOA managing director and co-founder, will present a paper on Sept. 29 at 1:20 p.m. BRT (6:20 p.m. CEST).

During his discussion, Kummer will look at in-house industrial digitization. He’ll detail how the technology can help overcome the threat of  “degralescence” (degradation and obsolescence), and its effect on audiovisual preservation for future generations.

“When embarking on a large-scale digitization project, institutions are confronted with many challenges,” he said. “These can include the choice of equipment, staff allocation and training, carrier manager methods or project financing, Industrial digitization is the only way to sustain a long-term and cost-conscious strategy in AV archive preservation.”

Kummer says his speech will offer insight into various facilities worldwide that have successfully embraced and implemented in-house digitization.
